Exclusive Interview – Scoring Mayor of Kingstown with composer Andrew Lockington

Canadian composer Andrew Lockington has an eclectic resume, that encompasses tentpole disaster movies and reputable adaptations of confirmed fantasy classics. In amongst a plethora of titles for both television and film, Andrew has collaborated with director Brad Peyton on three projects which sit firmly on the shoulder of Dwayne ‘The Rock ‘ Johnson. With the ability to switch effortlessly between broad bombastic sequences and subtler character beats, Andrew is able to elevate and enhance everything he touches.

In his latest score for Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown, he underpins a darkness inherent to both plot and character, whilst drawing out the humanity essential to making this drama work. Recently he took time out to talk to Martin Carr about his approach and what made this project irresistible.

MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN follows the McLusky family – power brokers in Kingstown, Mich., where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, The Mayor of Kingstown stars Jeremy Renner, Dianne Wiest, Kyle Chandler, Aidan Gillen, Hugh Dillon, Pha’rez Lass, Tobi Bamtefa, Emma Laird, Derek Webster and Taylor Handley.

The Mayor of Kingstown airs on Paramount+.
